Hindu Forum Belgium and Ghent University invite you to the official presentation of the research report “Mapping Hinduism in Belgium” on Thursday, 26 November 2026, in Ghent.
For the first time, a dedicated academic research project provides a comprehensive mapping of Hinduism in Belgium, offering valuable insights into the presence, diversity, organisation and contributions of Hindu communities across the country.
Commissioned by Hindu Forum Belgium (HFB), conducted by Ghent University (UGent) and supported financially by the Belgian Federal Public Service Justice, this research represents an important step towards a better understanding and recognition of Hinduism as part of Belgium’s diverse religious and cultural landscape.
Bringing Research, Community and Public Institutions Together
Hinduism has been part of Belgian society for many decades. Its communities represent a rich diversity of traditions, cultural backgrounds and spiritual practices, contributing to Belgian society through religious activities, education, cultural initiatives, social engagement and interfaith dialogue.
Yet until now, a comprehensive academic overview of this diverse landscape has been lacking.
The Mapping Hinduism in Belgium project helps fill this gap by providing a research-based understanding of Hindu communities, their organisations and their place within Belgian society.
Beyond its academic importance, the report offers a valuable foundation for future dialogue, cooperation and policy development.

Looking Towards the Future
For Hindu Forum Belgium, this research is more than an academic exercise. It represents an important opportunity to make the Hindu presence in Belgium more visible, to strengthen understanding between communities and institutions, and to support informed dialogue about the future of Hinduism in Belgian society.
We believe that understanding begins with knowledge, recognition grows through dialogue, and inclusion becomes meaningful through participation.
We warmly invite our member organisations, Hindu communities, academic partners, policymakers and everyone interested in Belgium’s religious and cultural diversity to join us for this important occasion.
